Next month I'll be leading an intuitive watercolor workshop at West End Yoga. Watercolor and yoga feel like a perfect pair to me. I started exploring yoga as a teenager and have been painting since I was a kid, but it's only recently that I've seen how much the two actually have in common.
Painting has always been the easier door for me. Yoga is harder. Most times on the mat, I still catch myself in my head, following the teacher's form, comparing myself to the person next to me, trying to get it right. The last few years have shifted though. I've started to let go of falling in line and started asking my body what it actually wants in each pose instead. It's slower. It's also more honest.
That's the same thing intuitive watercolor asks of me. No reference photo to match, no "right" way to move the brush. Just listening to what wants to happen next and trusting it, even when I have no idea where it's going
Both practices come down to the same question: can I trust my own inner guidance over some made-up idea of how this is “supposed to” look? I'm still a beginner at that question every time I show up, on the mat or at the easel.
This workshop is built around that question. We'll paint intuitively, without a plan, and practice listening to what our own hands already know.
I'd love for you to join me for an afternoon of that at West End Yoga, a community that's been part of my life for a long time.
